Blue-green algae bloom(s) have been spotted at Harbor East and Harbor West. Blue-green algae (also known as cyanobacteria) are microscopic organisms that naturally occur in Illinois lakes and streams. Please keep kids and pets away from areas with blooms. An inspection and treatment program has been put into effect. Future updates will be posted as treatments and inspection progress.

Community Park Renovations

The Hanover Park Park District Community Center is about to undergo an exciting renovation plan for its community park. This expansive park will be revamped with a new 8-foot wide walking/biking trail, a full-court basketball court, and a fitness equipment installation. Additionally, visitors can sit under a brand-new shelter equipped with picnic tables overlooking a pond that has been carefully landscaped with native plantings and informative interpretive signage.

To make this park even more family-friendly, there will also be a sizable playground area complete with swings, game tables, and other fun activities for children of all ages to enjoy. For those looking to relax in nature or catch some fish, there will also be a new fishing dock. To top it off, benches have been placed throughout the entire park for visitors to take in the beauty of their surroundings.

This renovation plan aims to provide safe and enjoyable recreational opportunities for everyone that visits the Hanover Park Park District Community Center.

The Hanover Park Park District is excited to announce that it has been awarded a $600,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant program. This grant will help fund the construction of the new Discovery Park Playground, a project voted on by the community in 2022. The new playground is part of a larger effort by the state to create more recreational opportunities for communities throughout Illinois.

The grant represents one of 118 recipients of OSLAD funding across the state and is among the largest grants ever awarded through this 36-year-old program. Governor JB Pritzker praised the program’s success in helping to fund projects that promote outdoor recreation and “will provide access to nature and green space for families all across our state”.

The new Hanover Park playground, expected to be completed within two years, will feature interactive play elements intended to stimulate physical activity while teaching kids about nature through exploration and discovery. The design includes plenty of natural materials, as well as different levels of terrain for climbing and jumping. There are also plans for plenty of green spaces surrounding the playground for families to enjoy.

Construction on Discovery Park Playground is expected to begin next year, with completion anticipated within two years' time. The local community can look forward to enjoying a safe and stimulating outdoor recreational experience at their doorstep very soon!

The Hanover Park community is thrilled to announce the groundbreaking of Discovery Park, a new playground that will be home to a wide range of outdoor activities and amenities. The Master Plan for Discovery Park is a comprehensive design that covers everything from play structures to landscaping and more. It's sure to be a hit with the local kids!

At Discovery Park, they'll find plenty of fun activities. The centerpiece of the park is an engineered wood fiber surfaced playground that offers up exciting slides, swings, monkey bars, and more. There's also a splash pad where kids can cool off on hot summer days as well as a game area with baggo game and pink pong tables for some friendly competition. For some tranquility, visitors can relax in the shelter featuring picnic tables or take in some music at the Music Garden.

Of course, there are plenty of other features too! Sports fans will enjoy the full basketball court while nature lovers can explore the picturesque loop trail lined by trees providing ample shade. Plus, there’s even a challenge course that tests physical abilities while still being safe and fun.

In short: Hanover Park’s Discovery Park promises to be an amazing place filled with recreational opportunities for all ages!

Together we can create change for the future!

The Hanover Park Park District’s parks and trails are great places for people of all ages to relax and recreate. As you know, these areas stay beautiful only with a continuous effort on everyone’s part.

When using a park, please put trash in its place. If you come upon discarded trash, please help by putting it in a trash container.

Throughout the year, the Parks Department can only employ up to a handful of individuals who maintain the park sites. Volunteer help from our residents and visitors alike is always welcomed.

Parks are open from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week, unless otherwise posted. It takes everyone working together to beautify the parks and improve the quality of our environment. Thank you for loving your park.
